| The
former Dominican Fathers Convent |
 |
The
Convent location, which was built in
1496 by the Dominican Fathers, is outstanding.
It is placed on the farthest end of
the Sestri Levante peninsula, and overlooks
the sea from three sides: two of them
are set towards the Baia del Silenzio
(Bay of Silence), one overlooks the
open sea.
In 1867 the whole complex was bought
by a private society of benefactors,
who turned it into a seaside holiday
camp. The plant kept this role until
1982.
|
The
present building has undergone various
alterations since its XV century design.
At any rate the structure still has significant
architectural elements, such as the apse,
the frescos and the cross vault in the
church, the cloister, as well as many
other stucco and frescos.
The Monastery, owned by the Biella and
Casale Councils, was known under the
name of "Colonia Tagliaferro".
It has recently been bought by the Sestri
Levante Council. |

| The
building improvement was commissioned
to the architect Carlo Berio, and it
has aimed at the restoration of the original
peculiarities of the complex. This has
enhanced the accomplishment of rooms
equipped for the traditional and multi-media
didactics, an auditorium with a capacity
for 300 guests, rooms for conferences,
congresses and seminars, libraries, offices,
common areas service areas for the guests
reception. The three terraces overlooking
the sea and the garden extend over an
area of about 1100 m². Their particular
design make a modular use possible, thus
allowing the simultaneous launch of different
initiatives.
The
complex is intended to host both research
projects (which can find their proper
seat inside the building), and other
major events ruled by external and private
institutions, such as conventions, meetings,
congresses.
